Complaining

When you complain, are you actually changing or improving your situation? Or, are you just focusing on what’s wrong with it?

“What you focus on in your life grows, what you think about expands and what you dwell on determines your destiny.” – Robin S. Sharma, in “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”

If you focus on the bad things in life, you’ll get more of them; but the same goes if you decide to focus on the good things.

Complaining keeps you stuck in a negative state, preventing you from grasping the silver line that is in every situation. If complaining is not good, why do you keep doing it? Well, it’s a self-defense mechanism. In a way, complaining protects you from taking responsibility for your life.

It gives you the possibility to play the victim role. If you’re a victim, it means you’re not in charge of what happens to you – right? But, the truth is that you have so much power over your life. There are so many things you can control; and, for what you can’t control – well, you shouldn’t even waste your time thinking about it.

Take on a 30-day no-complaining challenge, this December, and start the new year without the weight of complaints on your shoulders.

    Procrastinating on your goals

The “I’ll get it done someday” will turn into a life full of regrets if you keep procrastinating on your goals.

If you’re going through life thinking that you’ll have forever to do the things you’ve always dreamed of doing, I’m sorry to break it to you, but: your days on this Earth are numbered.

Whatever your goal is; whether it is to:

      • Launch your blog
      • Increase your income
      • Buy a house
      • Write a book
      • Go on your dream vacation

…What are you still waiting for?

Especially at the start of a new year, it’s common to set goals and resolutions that will never be achieved. Why? Because they are too unrealistic! If you want to have a life-changing year, in 2025, make sure to set achievable goals and create a plan that can help you go from where you are to where you want to be.

Stop setting New Year’s resolutions for the sake of doing it, without putting in any work and effort. It’s time to stop procrastinating, and start doing!

      Negative self-talk

All the time, there’s a voice whispering in your head, in the background: it’s your inner self. The voice in your head determines how you show up to the world, what you think of yourself, and the way you perceive those around you.

        What’s your narrative?

Is that voice helping you or is it sabotaging you?

How do you speak to yourself?

No one has control over what you think but you. No one can change your mind but you. And no one can shift your self-talk but you.

Let me ask you this: How do you expect to grow into the most loving version of yourself if your inner voice constantly criticizes you?

You can’t evolve and improve yourself if the soil you’re in is spoiled. You can’t learn to love yourself from a place of hate. But, you can always change the song that’s playing in your head. If you’re unhappy with the melody that’s playing, don’t blame the dancer but change the track.

Instead of overly criticizing yourself and being your worst enemy, start replacing your negative thoughts with positive and loving ones.

When you make a mistake, grasp what you can learn from it instead of blaming yourself. If you keep judging yourself too harshly, state some positive qualities you have instead of focusing on your flaws. When you find yourself in a negative headspace, engage in what makes you feel good instead of letting the day go to waste because of your bad mood.

Shifting your self-talk simply means going from a:

        • “I can’t do it” to “I’ll learn how to do it”
        • “I don’t know what I want in life” to “I’ll figure it out”
        • “I always make mistakes” to “I’m giving myself the possibility to learn”

You can’t control everything in this world, but you can certainly control how you speak to yourself.

Let go of the toxic habit of negative self-talk, and grow into the best version of yourself this 2025.

        Postponing happiness

Thinking that only achieving your goals is going to bring you major happiness is the root cause of many of your problems. Happiness is not in the future or the past. Happiness is right here, right now – in this moment.

So, why can’t you see it?

Maybe you’re too focused on your goals that you forget to enjoy the journey that will get you there. Or, perhaps, you’re looking back at what it was – wishing it could be still like that – and so not grasping the beauty that lies in this moment too.

If it’s true that your goals won’t bring you happiness, it’s also as true that when you’re happier you’re actually more likely to work on achieving them. On your path to becoming who you want to be, don’t forget to appreciate who you are now. As you get closer to reaching your goals, don’t forget to enjoy the road ahead.

When you look back at the ‘good old times’, don’t forget that one day you might be referring to this day as the ‘good old days’. Happiness isn’t something you find; it’s something you create.

Find small ways to bring more happiness into your daily life and you’ll realize that happiness was never a destination to reach, but a mental state to adopt.

          Comparing yourself to others

Finally, the last toxic habit you should let go of before 2025 is comparison.

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” – Theodore Roosevelt

It has never been easier than today to compare yourself with thousands of people from all over the world. You can open any social media app and you’ll see people who seem happier than you, richer than you, and simply doing better at life than you are. But, is it the truth?

Remember that what you see online is only what they want you to see. People only share parts of their lives, not everything.

So, whenever you compare online, you’re comparing your life with someone else’s highlights. Also, what’s the purpose of your comparison? If you already know it’s something that’s not going to make you feel better, why do you keep doing it?

Everyone has their own path and is at a different stage in their lives. There are no identical lives. There is no wrong or right path. What is good for one, isn’t for another. Each one of us is figuring its own path out, one step at a time.

Give yourself the grace to not compare yourself with the world outside because no one is you.

Follow your heart, trust your instincts, do what feels most right, and be so focused on your own journey that you don’t have time to look at what others are even doing.

Don’t let the outside noise interfere with your heart’s truth.
