Cozy Kitchen Ideas That Make Cooking More Fun

For a lot of us, cooking is not a fun and enjoyable time. It’s something you do because you need food to survive. I definitely fall into that category but with a baby on the way and life about to change, I will need to find a way to enjoy cooking more.

The way I plan on doing that is by making my kitchen a cozy space. If the kitchen feels like a happy space I want to be in, then I will feel more inclined to cook! This is something I have been slowly doing and so far it’s working! I truly believe it’s possible to make cooking more fun with some cozy kitchen ideas, such as decor, ambience, and general cooking tools.

If you want to turn your kitchen into a cozy kitchen paradise so you can enjoy cooking more, keep reading!

The struggle with cooking

If you are reading this, I’m going to assume cooking isn’t your favourite activity. I wanted to call it a chore there but I figured since we are trying to make it more enjoyable a change of words was necessary! It is part mindset after all.

The biggest struggle I have with cooking is the time it takes. And maybe the energy too.

I really don’t like how long it takes to cook. Between thinking about what to make, getting the ingredients, prepping, cooking, and cleaning… It’s a hassle! By the time I get home from work, the last thing I want to do is slave away in the kitchen. I would much rather put something frozen into the oven.

The energy it takes is a lot too. Standing in the kitchen when all I want to do is rest. Loading and unloading the dishwasher. Look, I know this is such a first-world problem but I don’t find it fun.

Add in the fact that I’m not a chef and the food is mediocre at best, it’s not even like I’m getting the most enjoyable meal out of all the time and energy spent. Although I do need to say I make a very yummy Italian gnocchi pasta. I can say that with confidence!

I know I’m not alone here. I’m sure this is an even stronger feeling for parents or people with a lot of responsibilities outside of work.

The goal of creating a cozy kitchen is to make the space more inviting and to hopefully bring some happy and positive vibes to the whole experience. The cozier you are, the happier you are. That is just science.

Cozy kitchen ideas

I have made a list of ways you can make your kitchen more cozy and inviting and therefore, make the cooking experience more fun. You can do all of these or just a few. The world is your oyster!

Seasonal decor

I love decorating but typically have the most decorations for fall and Christmas. Why stop there? You can decorate for Valentine’s Day, Easter, spring in general, summertime, and so on.

A cozy mat

Make your space physically more comfortable with something cushy and cozy to stand on. I love the carpet runners but there are also some smaller options if you don’t have the space.

Matching utensils

Your cozy kitchen needs some matching utensils. It makes everything much more visually appealing and having some new kitchen items to work with makes the cooking process more fun.

Kitchen speaker

Create a fun cooking playlist and play it on your new kitchen speaker! This is something we currently have and I do admit that the right music does make a difference. We love to play a little Dean Martin while making Italian food.

Grow your own herbs

Another fun activity that brings some life to your kitchen is growing your own herbs. There are different ways to do this but I like the indoor herb gardens. It’s always nice when you can pick some fresh herbs for your meals and the greenery adds a nice touch to the space.

Functional storage

A functional space makes a happier space user. Whenever the kitchen is dirty or I can’t find something it drives me nuts! Having functional storage options around the kitchen makes your life so much easier and makes cooking more enjoyable.

Drink station

You may or may not have enough space for a designated drink station but if you do, this is a game-changer! Having a coffee bar or a little cocktail-making station can make your space so much more fun. I love having a fancy little drink while making dinner!

Kitchen artwork

Again, if the vibes are right in the kitchen, cooking will feel better. There are so many fun kitchen art prints on Etsy or even Amazon. Add some color to your space or some different textures and make your kitchen much more cozy.

Weekly menu board

This is a bit more functional than cozy (however, you can find some really cute menu boards). Having your weekly meals written down for everyone to see takes the stress out of cooking which makes it more enjoyable. If you are always trying to whip something up last minute (that’s me!!) it can take the fun out of cooking for sure.

Cute food storage

Add some whimsy to your kitchen with cute food storage options. This could look like a bread box, those ceramic berry containers, or putting your milk into a jug instead of the carton. There are so many ways to store your food that makes it more fun.

Useful kitchen tools

I recently got a Kitchen Aid mixer and let me tell you, I feel like baking so much more now. Having tools and appliances that can help make cooking easier, faster, or less messy can make the process a lot better.

Cookbook stand

If you have the counter space, a cookbook stand is a very cute and cozy addition to your kitchen. Not only is it useful to have on hand (recipes, duh) but it can also double as seasonal decor! You can swap out recipe books for the season or for your mood. Lots of fun!

Matching spice containers

This is on my to-do list this year. I LOVE when all the spices match and even better if they have a cute little storage rack. It doesn’t make the food taste better but it makes the act of cooking more fun and aesthetic.

Clean scented candles

Having a clean-smelling kitchen really brings a good atmosphere. It bumps up the cozy kitchen vibes and again, they make the space look nicer and you can swap out candles with the season or mood. They are a super easy addition that makes your kitchen feel more homey and can help get you through the cooking process.

Final thoughts

Just writing this post got me excited about all the changes I can make to my kitchen. I love creating cozy spaces and for some reason, my kitchen has just not been on the redecorate list. However, making the kitchen a cozy space will 100% help with making cooking more fun and changing my mindset around the “chore” of cooking.

I think I’m going to start with the carpet runner because I need to feel comfy!

What do you think? Does making a space cozier make things more enjoyable? Are you a cooking hater like me?

Tell me your thoughts in the comments!

Until next time,
