December 2023: The End Is Here, Folks
Wow! A whole year has passed. 12 whole months of me giving these monthly wrap-ups and updates. It’s really quite incredible how fast time goes by. It does not feel like 12 months?! But alas, it has been. Looking back at the last year has been a lot of fun. I have been so lucky this past year – so many amazing memories (which we will get to).
I just wanted to start this off by saying THANK YOU! I wouldn’t be writing this December/end-of-the-year recap if no one read them (or any of my posts) and the reality is, many of you do read these. It’s such a fun way to document my life and my blog but it’s also been a way to connect with my readers. Seeing your comments on these posts specifically keeps me going because the support and community here is just amazing!
So, if you have been coming back to my blog to read and check in, thank you so so much. If you are new here, WELCOME FRIEND 🙂 I want this to be a space for growth, learning, and connection and I think we are doing that – one blog post at a time!
Anyways, let’s jump into the LAST WRAP-UP OF 2023!!!

Have you ever noticed how you can hyper-fixate on all the negatives and then the positives just seem to disappear? It’s not like the good things didn’t happen but the negatives seem to outweigh them somehow. I hate when that happens, so I try to look back at the good! So these are a few good things that happened in December…
It was Christmas party season! I love a good Christmas party. Earlier in December I went to my husband’s work Christmas party and I WON SOMETHING! I don’t usually win things so it was a big deal. I won a new hair curler and Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. I want to be real with you though – I’m not sure I like the Oloaplex shampoo… the consistency is just weird and it made my hair feel dry. So I won’t be using that but I still won so that’s cool.
It was also my husband’s birthday! He is a December baby which is a little stressful with Christmas in the same month but it was still a lot of fun.
I decorated for Christmas which is always something I look forward to! There were a few “upgrades” made this year and I could not be happier with how it turned out.
Final goal updates
This section of my monthly wrap-ups has been my favourite. It has also been the section that gets the most response from you guys. It can feel a little vulnerable sharing my stats and progress (or lack thereof) but it’s also relatable to many of you trying to grow your own blogs or side businesses. This will continue into 2024 (with different goals) and I can’t wait to share all my ups and downs with you. For now, let’s chat about my goals – the last goal update of 2023!
Blog views: I am sitting at around 5.5k monthly pageviews. I did see a dip after Halloween but it’s been slowly going back up. So I’m hopeful for more growth in the New Year.
Instagram: I am stuck at the 1770 mark. Literally cannot get any more followers lol. The second I gain some followers I also lose some followers so that is where we are at.
Email list: I’m up to 355 email friends! Love to see the growth there!
Workouts: I would say I have a really good workout routine now. I’m not tracking my workouts as much because I work out whenever I have the time. This month has been busier but I have still been moving 3-4 times a week.
Reading: 41/60 books. Yeah, so I didn’t reach this goal but I’m still super proud that I read 41 books this year!
Favourite things from December
I really feel like this month has flown by and I don’t even remember many of my meals, podcasts listened to, or things I bought that weren’t for Christmas but let’s do a quick list!
Favourite song: Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan + Post Malone
Most watched Youtubers: I’ve been really into Kalyn Nicholson and Angie Bellemare recently!
Favourite book read: Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs. It was a very interesting fantasy about books that are written in blood and this whole secret society of magical people.
Favourite Amazon purchase: a new planner! I have been a clover fox girly for a while and I still love them but wanted to try something new. So I ordered the Best Week Ever planner from Sweetzer & Orange. It looks amazing and it’s the perfect size for what I was wanting (smaller so I can put it in my purse).
Favourite Insta post: self-care ideas for overthinkers

My top memories from 2023
Ahhh, 2023 has been a good year! It is hard to narrow down my favourite memories but there are a couple that pop into my mind as TOP memories. I’m scrolling through my phone’s photo album because reviewing my pictures helps spark memories that I otherwise forget (my brain can only hold on to so much lol). The amount of cat pictures is not shocking but also makes me wonder if I did other things? If all I did was cuddle with my cat, I’m okay with that. However, I know that isn’t true and I have LOTS of wonderful memories to share with my internet besties.
1. I got married! That has to be the top memory because well, I got married. It was the most beautiful day. So perfect in every way. Something I will never forget is that our ceremony ended up being a little late because the wedding before ours ran late due to the groom passing out at the altar (he was okay).
2. The annual trip to Kelowna! I love spending time at the lake – it’s my happy place. It was so much fun driving the boat out to the middle of the lake and floating around in our life jackets, jamming out to music, and having a couple of drinks. The perfect summer day!
3. Seeing my blog reach 5k monthly page views! It was something I had been working towards and while 3k was my original goal I always had 5k in the back of my mind. When I checked my stats that day I freaked out lol. Even took a picture!
4. My bachelorette trip (and my BFF’s trip too). I went to the Sunshine Coast in BC for my trip and it was really relaxing and fun. We went to Whistler for my friends and I loved going to the Scandinave Spa!
5. Seeing the Taylor Swift Eras movie in theatres (the closest thing I’ll probably get to the real thing because I can’t get tickets to any of her shows lol. We all dressed up as an era and I had a blast!
6. Every second I get to spend with my cat, Luna. I just love her so much and every morning I get to hear her little meow and every night that I get cuddles before bed are my favourite.
The plan for Life By Deanna in the New Year
So, if you are on my email list I shared the biggest thing that will be happening this year over here at Life By Deanna. I am keeping it a bit of a secret (even though like 300 of you know lol) but for everyone else, you will find out in time!
Otherwise, you will be seeing MORE blog posts.
I am hoping to post two times a week instead of one. It might not happen every single week but that is my goal.
I also want to change up the look of the blog. I’ve been playing around with some new colors and stuff because I feel like I need a refresh after 2 years. I posted about this on Instagram and a few people said they have had this urge too so I’m leaning into it!
I’m also hoping to give the newsletter a bit of a refresh. I love how it is now but would like the format to be a little different so I’ll be playing around with that as well. Let me know if you have any preferences!
And finally, I think I will be easing off Instagram and focusing more on Threads. I’m still feeling up in the air about this because on the one hand, I love Instagram but on the other hand I have seen NO growth there and simply don’t have the time to post every single day and film reels, take tons of photos, etc. I will still be super active in my stories but I think I’m going to take away some of the pressure to post over there. Check me out on Threads though because I’m going to try to be more active there.
My tentative goals for 2024
I’m not sure if there will be a whole post about my 2024 goals or if it will just be in my January wrap-up post but for now I wanted to share some of my tentative goals!
For the blog:
- 10k monthly pageviews
- 2 blog posts per week
- Collab with more bloggers (ideally once a month)
- 500 email list subscribers
- Launch my secret project 👀
For social media:
- Figure out Threads lol
- Sort out my IG plan…
For my life:
- Limit my daily screen time to 3 hours
- Daily 8k steps
- Get my nutrition sorted out (need a plan for this still – have some ideas)
- Read 50 books
I have a few financial goals as well but for now I’m not going to share them. Mostly because I don’t have a real plan yet and I would also need to share my secret project and we just aren’t there yet! But in due time friends!
