March 2024 Recap: Hawaii Recommendations, Huge Progress, And Eye Opening Reflections

Wow, March was a busy and fun month for me! I feel like it flew right by which sucks because for once, I actually want March to last a little longer!

Some exciting things happened in my personal life, on the blog, and just overall for my business. Feeling proud of myself this month and also feeling like past me would be shocked haha. I like the saying that goes like, “There’s a version of you that wanted to be where you are right now” or something like that. It’s so true. Sometimes we get caught up in the small things that we forget just how far we’ve come.

That’s a big thing I’m reflecting on right now. But, I think it’s time to reflect on all the other fun things from March so let’s dive into the March 2024 recap.

How was March overall?

I’m rating March an 8/10. It was a solid month!

I don’t think any ground-breaking progress was made with my habits and routines. I really didn’t do that great with my workouts – life was just so busy.

Between dealing with buying our house, planning and going on our Honeymoon, working on the blog, launching my new Patreon membership… there was a lot. Some of my usual habits and routines had to take a back seat.

That’s okay though because the fun times had and the memories made were worth it.

We went to Hawaii for our Honeymoon. Stayed at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel. We did so much fun stuff (Kualoa Ranch, snorkeling, Honolulu Zoo, ate so much food, rented a sports car, visited many beaches, saw Pearl Harbor, and more).

Here are some of my Hawaii recommendations if you are traveling to Hawaii anytime soon:

  • Best patio with a view: Lulu’s Waikiki. We went here a couple of times. The food was good, the drinks were good, the wait to get a table was short, and the views were amazing! I’m sure there are better options along the beach but honestly, this was perfect for us.
  • Fun snorkeling tour: Turtle Canyon Snorkel Excursion. It was reasonably priced, lots of fun, the staff were amazing, and we saw sea turtles, lots of fish, and even dolphins!!
  • Best acai bowls: Haleʻiwa Bowls on the North Shore. It’s a small little shack but super cute and good bowls.
  • Yummy burgers: Cheeseburger In Paradise was a great stop for a greasy burger. Right on the main drag in Waikiki. I’m from Canada so it’s always shocking when you get burgers in the US as they don’t fully cook them lol so I asked for mine fully cooked.
  • Good happy hour drinks: Skybox Tap House at the International Marketplace in Waikiki had good happy hour drinks (only $10 for girly cocktails)
  • Best breakfast: Moke’s Bread and Breakfast was THE BEST breakfast I’ve probably ever had. I will be thinking about it for a long time.

Some quick tips:

  • If you want to go to the Honolulu Zoo sign up for their membership. It’s only a few dollars more but you skip a HUGE line
  • Bring water shoes. So many cool beaches have rocks and sharp terrain so better to have them on hand
  • Don’t rent any beach toys/inflatables from your hotel. Go to the ABC store and buy them for cheap and then give them to someone else to use/ take home
  • Skip the Cheesecake Factory line and sit at the bar
  • Get a hotel room with a kitchenette if possible and save some money on food

Goal updates

Let’s chat about goals quickly. I did make some goal progress this month despite being SUPER busy and not being able to be the most present with the blog and social media.

Monthly page views: By some miracle, I have reached 8k monthly page views!!! Getting closer to my 10k goal

Email subscribers: I have reached 548 email subs!! Holy cow! I didn’t get around to removing inactive subscribers last month and I do still plan on doing that. The number will definitely be going down soon. But I’m super happy to see that over 100 people signed up this past month.

Threads following: Gosh, I still love Threads! I have 475 followers which is up about 35 from last month.

Read 50 books: I only read 2 books in March so I am at 11/50 books.

Secret Project (aka Patreon Membership): The secret is out and the membership is launched! I would say that’s pretty huge progress. As of writing this, I have 2 members and I can’t wait to see more join in.

March favourites

Since I did so many fun things this month I feel like I have tons of favourites. Let’s see if I can narrow it down.

Favourite drink: Absolut Berry Vodkarita Cocktail. I love these from the store. But if we are talking favourite drink overall, I had this AMAZING pineapple mojito in Hawaii.

Favourite book: Bride by Ali Hazelwood was hands down my favourite book in March

Favourite outfit: I got the cutest blue dress from Winners. It is the one I’m wearing below in the picture in Hawaii

Favourite Amazon purchase: I upgraded Luna’s (my cat) water fountain this month. I liked her last one but it was worn and she needed a new one. I got the Stouchi Cat Water Fountain and it’s so much better!!!

Favourite music: Back on my Taylor Swift game. Was listening to Midnights ON REPEAT on the airplane so that’s back to being my fav again (but did it ever really stop?!)

Favourite podcast: Just came across this Podcast called Hurdle with Emily Abbate and I’m loving her episodes.

What I read in March

It was a slow reading month but I enjoyed both the books I read!

Bride by Ali Hazelwood: Easily 5/5 stars. A super fun vampire/werewolf romance that has everything from drama, kidnapping, crazy tension, and super sweet love and friendship. I enjoyed every second. I listened on audio and it did take a little bit to get used to the voice but once I did I was obsessed.

The Librarian of Crooked Lane by CJ Archer: I started a new series while away on vacation as I normally do lol. It was a fun magical historical fiction story. Loved the characters and the mystery involved. Could have been more magic but I will be reading the rest of the series!

Life By Deanna highlights

The biggest highlights on Life By Deanna in March are definitely launching the Growing Gals Patreon membership and reaching 8k page views.

I’m so excited that at least a couple of people are interested and signed up for the membership. I know anything new takes time to grow and just having some people instantly interested is huge. It’s my first big step to creating the community I’ve always wanted. I’ve talked about some of my trials and errors on here before but I go into more detail in my welcome message over on Patreon. It just means so much to me to be able to do this and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

The Growing Gals Patreon Membership

Top posts from March:

The plan for April

The plan for April is to just keep going. More content, back in my routine, and work through the first month of the Growing Gals Patreon membership!

I’m feeling a renewed energy after having some time off of work and starting new things. April will hopefully bring some better weather and with that a better mood haha. I’m feeling hopeful for the month ahead.

I’m not putting too much pressure on myself. I just want to focus on forward movement and as Dory said, just keep swimming.

Past you is proud of you

As I mentioned at the beginning, I have been reflecting and realized that past me would be so shocked by how far I’ve come. Not only in my blog and business but my confidence and overall clarity in life.

I still have a long way to go (as we all do) but it really hit me that I haven’t taken a moment to sit with the progress I’ve made.

I was chatting with Nick and shared a message someone sent me about the membership and was like wow, I think I have a fan. Someone actually wants to buy what I am offering without any questions or concerns. Just wants it because it’s from ME. Past me would never believe that. Current me can hardly believe that lol.

But it was like a light switch in my head. The progress I’ve made is HUGE even when it feels small. Even when it seems like I’m stuck.

That is what I wanted to share with you today. YOU are also making progress. Every day that you show up and do anything, you are moving forward. YOU are shocking past you. Take a minute to reflect on that today.
