We have all heard of a morning routine before. You might even have one! A morning routine is the best way to start the day off right. Since we live in a time of technology and everything being made easier and more convenient, it makes sense that we would add products and technology into your morning routines to make them better!
But how are you supposed to know what’s good and what you should pass on? There are so many wellness products out there that seem like a good idea but ultimately are a waste of money. I’m not here to waste all of your hard-earned money!!
So, let’s chat about morning routines and what’s worth purchasing to add into your routine!

Why you need a morning routine
When I tell you that everyone needs a morning routine, I mean EVERYONE. I don’t care when you wake up but gosh darn it, have some kind of routine.
I was just talking to a friend about this and she told me that she wakes up and then logs into work and then that’s it! She goes through the day with no real purpose and then feels bad when nothing productive was done. The worst part… she knows she could easily change that!
So we chatted about starting a morning routine. Just something simple like a set wake-up time (a little earlier than she wakes up now), eating a small breakfast, drinking water, doing a quick meditation, and getting dressed!
It’s as simple as that!
Having a morning routine sets you up for your day. It allows you to move into your daily tasks with purpose. You feel energized and ready to work. It even helps you be more productive overall because once you’ve done one thing (like get dressed) you may as well keep going!

4 things I think you need to do in the morning
Everyone is different and has different needs. For example, I’m the kind of person that wakes up feeling hungry. I need to eat asap or else. Some people don’t feel that way at all so eating first thing isn’t necessary. It’s all about how you feel!
However, there are some non-negotiable things that I think everyone should be doing for a great morning. Let’s talk about them.
Drink water
If you keep water beside your bed at night, grab that thing and drink it when you sit up to get out of bed! Start the day with hydration!!
Start small with a small glass and work your way up. I know drinking water isn’t always fun and it doesn’t taste as yummy as a coffee BUT drinking cold water first thing in the morning can have the same effects as drinking a cup of coffee!
I don’t even drink coffee anymore (maybe the odd Starbucks treat but I honestly don’t NEED it).
Something to get your brain going
Yes, this is vague but also, everyone is different!! This could be something like journaling, reading, listening to a podcast, drawing, moving your body, writing a to-do list, or whatever else wakes your brain up!
Takes 5 minutes to activate your beautiful brain so you are ready to take on the day. There’s nothing worse than driving to work and feeling like a zombie because the first “brain work” of the day is driving. How horrible!
Move your body
Now, I don’t necessarily mean a full-on workout. If you are a morning workout person, good for you! Keep doing that!
Everyone else – I mean stretching, yoga, a quick walk, some jumping jacks, or whatever else moves you.
It doesn’t need to be long! I do a super quick stretch. A little arms, legs, stretch out the back and the neck. Takes me like 3 minutes but it feels good and then I feel more limber.
No phone time
I started not looking at my phone in the morning for the first 30 minutes that I’m awake and it really helped my mental health and productivity!
There’s nothing worse than waking up and immediately getting stuck on TikTok for 30 minutes… what a waste of time!

Hatch sunrise alarm clock
This is such a cool device! Not only does it serve as an alarm clock but it also makes calming sounds, has multiple lighting functions (sunset, sunrise, soft light for reading), and a night/ morning routine can be programmed into it.
It gradually wakes you up with nice sounds and a “sunrise” which is supposed to allow your body to wake up more naturally and limit a huge spike in cortisol levels (aka stress hormones).

5-minute journal
If you don’t have a ton of time or energy to journal in the morning but want to get your brain started, try the 5-minute journal.
The name says it all – it takes 5 minutes and starts your day off in a good way. I’m sure you’ve heats of this before (it’s pretty popular) but if you’ve been thinking about grabbing one, here’s your sign!

Stanley cup
It seems like every person and their dog has one of these cups!! They are huge so it makes for a great water bottle.
Put this beside your bed at night so you can get your water in right away in the morning! Remember, water can wake you up just as much as a coffee can.

Mini stepper
Want to get some steps in but don’t want to walk outside in the dark or all alone? I got you!
I recently purchased this mini stepper and let me tell you… I LOVE IT! It’s perfect for a light workout or just to get a few steps in.
Hop on the mini stepper in the morning while you watch a show or YouTube video. It’s quiet so it’s perfect for early morning or apartment livers!

Mushroom coffee
If you are a coffee drinker try Mushroom coffee!!

My favorite planner ever! Every morning I quickly flip this open and make a couple of notes of what needs to be done during the day. I also spend a couple of minutes tracking my habits from the day before!
This planner has helped me stay on track with my habits more than anything else ever has.

Greens
Something I’ve started this year is taking greens! I simply don’t get enough greens in naturally so it was a no-brainer to add them into my morning routine.
I tried several brands and the taste… horrendous. Finally, I found BioSteel sports greens!! They actually taste good and I look forward to my morning green drink now.

In conclusion
Creating a morning routine that works for you is most important. There are some things that everyone would benefit from, like movement, less screen time, and drinking more water!
However, everyone is also different so having a personal blender might be a game changer to you but to someone else, it wouldn’t be!
It’s all about finding ways to make your life better and more convenient so you can do the things you care about.

I really love this post. Something else I’d like to add to. The list is definitely essential oils because I feel like they helped to make my morning a lot more relaxing. I’m definitely going to invest in a personal blender because I personally like to drink green juices, but don’t want to inconvenience my house.
