The Ultimate Daily Habits to Improve Your Life

From the moment you wake up until you lay down to rest at night, these daily habits have the power to shape your days and elevate your overall well-being.

Start by splitting your day into three sections: morning, day-time, and night. Each habit will fall into one of these sections.

  • Morning habits work to kickstart your day with purpose.
  • The day-time habits are helpful to maintain momentum and productivity throughout the day.
  • Nighttime habits help to unwind and set yourself up for another wonderful day ahead.

Incorporating just a few of the habits mentioned during each part of the day will be super monumental for your overall well-being.

Habits are about consistency and balance

Forming habits involve repetition, consistency, and reinforcement. Habits are formed overtime NOT overnight.

It is important to note that while doing these habits once may have some instant gratification, consistency over time is when you will really see a transformation in your life.

You never want to have a perfectionist mindset. Meaning, you don’t have to be perfect. Instead, try adopting an 80/20 mindset.

If you can incorporate some of these habits 80% of the time, it will be much more maintainable and a lot less restrictive than trying to do all of these habits all the time.

Now, let’s get into the best daily habits.

Daily habits in the morning

Investing time in morning habits can be the difference between a bad and good day. Start the day right and boost your mood.

  • Make your bed: This small but simple task can help set the tone for your whole day. Doing just one productive thing gets the ball rolling so you want to continue to be productive and feel good.
  • Stay off your phone: Start the day focused and clear of the distractions and stress social media or emails can bring by staying off your phone in the morning. Limiting morning screen time also makes time for more mindful, productive morning activities.
  • Drink a glass of water first thing: Before you eat, have coffee or anything else in the morning, make sure you are starting your day with a full glass of water. According to MedicineNet, your metabolism can increase up to 25% when you drink water on an empty stomach. This helps to increase energy and maintain a healthy body, along with a ton of other benefits.
  • Practice morning movement: Invest some time in the morning to bring movement to your body and wake up your muscles. Maybe this means a quick 5 minute stretch and yoga session to loosen your body.
  • Set priorities and your daily to-do list: Make sure you have clear intentions for the day that will help you stay on track and organize your day. You can make your to-do list either the night before or morning of but once you are ready to start your day, having that list will be super beneficial.
  • Spend a few minutes journaling: The morning is the perfect time to sit down and connect with your thoughts in a safe space. Journaling can be very restorative, meditative and peaceful. For some more inspiration, check out these morning journal prompts.

Daily habits throughout the day

While your day may be busy and jam packed, keeping up with a few daily habits throughout the day will help promote wellness and keep you feeling good day after day,

  • Take intentional breaks for movement: If you are someone with a more sedentary job, such as working at a desk all day, like me, penciling in 5-10 minutes a couple times a day for a quick walk or stretch is a great daily habit to start incorporating. This will help reduce any negative effects such as stiffness or back and neck pain as well as help boost energy levels and circulation.
  • Stay hydrated: Staying hydrated throughout the day is super important as it supports essential bodily functions like digestion, circulation, temperature regulation, and many other essential things. Our bodies need water to survive after all.
  • Mindful snacking: Although snacking often has a negative connotation, mindful snacking can be a beneficial daily habit. Mindful snacking encourages you to choose healthier, nutrient-dense foods, supporting sustained energy levels and overall well-being. Additionally, letting yourself get too hungry between meals can lead to overeating at meal time.
  • Spend some time outside: Getting natural light and fresh air helps to boost your mood and reduce stress which brings more focus and energy to your day.

Daily habits at night

Establishing some nightly habits will help promote healthy sleeping patterns and give your body the proper rest and rejuvenate it deserves after a long day.

  • Light a candle: Candles bring calmness and relaxation by inducing a peaceful atmosphere. It’s soft, warm glow with essential oils like, lavender and chamomile that are known for their calming properties, make for the perfect ambiance to a night in.
  • Dim the lights: Dimming the lights can help signal your body to start winding down. This can promote the production of natural melatonin and improve overall sleep quality.
  • Clean the kitchen: While it might feel like the hardest chore after a long day, cleaning the kitchen before going to sleep will be the best thing to wake up to in the morning and feel so good. Trust me, you will thank yourself later.
  • Limit screen time: Blue light exposure from your phone or any other device can interfere with your body’s natural melatonin production and ultimately affect your sleep. Make it one of your daily habits to reduce your screen time at least an hour before bed.
  • Keep a consistent sleep schedule: By keeping a fairly consistent sleep schedule, you will start regulating your body’s internal clock. It will make it easier to wake up and fall asleep naturally.
