8 Helpful Tips For Feeling Confident In Your Skin

Whether it is the peak of summer or the coldest days of winter, everyone feels uncomfortable in their bodies sometimes. It can be because of your clothes, your weight, your shape, or a million other things. It never feels good to think of yourself in such a negative way. I know I have struggled with my self-confidence for years, especially during the summer. Nothing ever fits me right, I’m not as skinny as some other girl, my skin is too pale… you name it and I’ve thought about it.
As I get older, I realize that you need to trick yourself into being confident sometimes and that’s okay. With practice, confidence becomes more of a second nature. I won’t lie to you, I haven’t gotten there yet! But I do feel so much better about myself and the skin I am in this year. Big mindset shifts have happened for me in 2024! Feeling confident in your skin during the summer or any other time of year is possible. This is how I improved my confidence and feel much more secure in my body.
Tips for feeling confident in your skin
Gosh, there are so many reasons you might not feel great about yourself. Between societal pressures, the mean things people say, and your own biases, it can be so hard to feel confident.
Over the years I have discovered ways to feel more confident in my skin. Some have been from other wonderful ladies and some have been from my own trial and error.
Hope you find a few tips that will help you boost your body confidence any time of year.

Nourish your body
This may be obvious but your body needs nutrients to function. I know that when you struggle with your self-image or body size that eating less may feel like the solution. The reality is, it’s not going to fix anything. Instead, focus on eating enough but eating healthier foods with more nutrition. Just eating better foods will make you feel better even if nothing else changes for you.
Some of my favourite healthier options lately have been:
- Sliced meat and cheese roll-ups
- Oikos Greek yogurt (key lime specifically)
- Frozen chicken meatballs
- Scrambled egg bowls
- Frozen yogurt ice cream bars
Stay active
Being active doesn’t mean working out. Of course, exercising will always make you feel more confident. “Getting in shape” is a great way to boost your self-esteem but it’s not the only way. Being active could be walking more, going outside with friends, playing frisbee, swimming, and so on. Staying active throughout the year helps you feel more comfortable in your body. The way it moves and feels when you are doing something physical will become more comfortable the more you do it.

Protect and pamper your skin
During the summer months especially it is good to protect your skin! Wearing sunscreen and creating some type of skincare routine is always a good idea. The best part about pampering yourself (other than skin health) is it boosts your confidence. Believe it or not, taking care of yourself actually makes you feel more confident.
The other part of this is I know many people don’t always feel super confident without makeup on. And hey, that’s okay! If you like wearing makeup then do it. But if the only reason you are wearing it is because you don’t feel pretty enough or some other negative reason, taking care of your skin will hopefully help you feel more confident.
Dress for joy
Wearing clothes that fit your body will make you feel 100% more confident in your skin. No one feels good wearing pants that are too tight. Clothing for women is all over the place. The sizes are never consistent!! I have spent many shopping trips crying in the changing room so I get it.
However, when you can start wearing clothes that fit your body regardless of what size they are you will feel much more confident. No one will know what size your pants are. No one cares what size your bikini is! Just buy clothes that FIT and dress for happiness!
Surround yourself with positivity
It is true that positivity breeds positivity. If you find the people around you always complaining and saying negative things about their bodies/ other people’s bodies, it is time to move on. Those people and their negative views are not serving you.
Find friends and family that speak highly of themselves and others. Watch how quickly you will change your own attitude towards your body! The same goes for social media or any other content you consume. Focus on good vibes and body positive content (whatever that means to you).

Get a fake tan
Okay, hear me out! During the summer I always feel most confident in my skin when I have a tan. It makes my skin tone look a bit more even and I think it makes me look more fit. That is my own personal thoughts and NOTHING about other people.
You may find this is true for you too! If so, it’s a really quick and easy way to boost your confidence while you work on the other tips that may take a little longer.
Try something new
The more you put yourself out there and get outside of your comfort zone, the more confident you will feel. This may be more of a general confidence tip but it’s a good one! Stepping outside your comfort zone builds trust in yourself. The more you trust yourself the more confidence you will create. General confidence WILL become confidence in your body.
If you need self-image specific ideas you could try wearing a different style of bathing suit, going to a new gym, wearing a color you don’t normally wear, trying an activity like surfing or paddle boarding, and so on.
Limit your time on social media
It’s easy to get caught up in the social media chaos. Everyone seems to be so effortlessly beautiful but let me remind you that social media is fake and most people filter the heck out of their photos!
If you like posting pictures on social media and want to filter them (I do the same thing) it’s totally okay. Just know that others are doing it too and nothing is really as perfect as it seems. Spending too much time scrolling and comparing yourself to others is not helping your confidence. So spend some time off social media just living your life and being in the moment!

Final thoughts
Being confident in your skin doesn’t come easy. Even the “most confident people” are not confident all the time and maybe at one time, weren’t confident at all.
Learning to love the skin you’re in takes time and practice but it’s totally doable! You can do things like eat better foods, stay active, dress for the body that you have, and limit time comparing yourself to others.
Remember, you only live one life (yolo). You don’t want to spend your summers and other fun times of the year worrying about how you look. The goal is to create wonderful memories that you look back on fondly. I promise you no one will remember the bathing suit you wore or how you looked in your workout clothes. They WILL remember how much fun they had with you, the memories made, and how awesome that summer was.
I believe in you! You can become more confident and feel more comfortable in your skin! You got this and as always, I am right alongside you.
Until next time,
Deanna
